Pinwheels for Prevention

Background

In 2008 Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. What their research showed, and what their experiences since then have reinforced, is that people respond positively to pinwheels, which represent childlike whimsy and lightheartedness, and a vision for a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities. Whether you are a business or corporation enacting policies that impact the work-life balance of your employees or a neighbor who offers a respite from the demands of parenting, we all have an effect on the lives of children. Children who are raised with safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments are more academically and financially successful and grow up to be productive, contributing members of their communities. Pinwheels are a reminder that we all play a role in children’s lives.

Local Events and Awareness

Each year in April, Wexford-Missaukee Child Protection Council conducts a campaign to distribute information, hold community events, and performs fundraising events to promote awareness of child abuse and how to prevent it. Many of these events are done through partnerships with local businesses and community members.
